Senator Risa Hontiveros is calling for an immediate investigation into the alleged unfair water deals between the water districts and water companies.
In a press conference on Thursday, July 31, Hontiveros expressed her delight after revealing that the investigation into the alleged failed Joint Venture Agreement between Local Water Utilities (LGUs) and their Water Concessionaires would begin soon.
Hontiveros stated that the problem with the poor water supply needs to be addressed, adding that she had already filed a resolution asking the Commission on Audit (COA) to investigate the alleged unfair provision.
According to RH Raymund Dadpaas, Senate Resolution No. 16, or the Water Sustainability Act, had already been referred to the Committee on Public Services, an organization headed by Senator Raffy Tulfo.
The Senator stated that the Filipino families’ right to a clean water supply is being trampled on because of the water concessionaires’ unfair provision and service.
Last week, Hontiveros highlighted the current administration’s plan to improve the water supply to several areas in the country. The Senator emphasized the resolution she had filed, stating it was due to “disadvantageous conditions” of the water companies’ contracts.
