Filipino basketball player Kieffer Alas is set to return to the Philippines and join the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles for the upcoming UAAP Men's Basketball season after spending time at Utah Prep in the United States.
The Gilas Pilipinas Youth standout announced his commitment on Tuesday, March 3, confirming that he will both study and play for Ateneo, marking a homecoming to Philippine basketball.
In an Instagram post, Alas described his return as a “homecoming” and shared a quote emphasizing personal growth through confronting the truth about oneself.
Standing at 6’2 feet, Alas boasts impressive stats from his final season in the UAAP High School Boys Basketball Tournament with De La Salle Zobel, averaging 20.7 points, 11.14 rebounds, 4.93 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.
He also made history by winning the school’s first MVP award since Season 78 in 2016 under the leadership of Aljun Melecio.
Ateneo, which finished sixth last season with a 6-8 record and missed the Final Four, is expected to gain a significant boost from Alas’ addition.
His arrival comes as head coach Tab Baldwin and the Blue Eagles prepare for the next UAAP campaign, offering renewed optimism for the program.
With Alas joining the roster, Ateneo fans will be eager to see how the talented guard contributes to the team’s pursuit of a championship return.
