Lawyers for Commuters Safety and Protection (LCSP) founder Atty. Ariel Inton raised long-standing concerns over the fare surge system of transport network vehicle services (TNVS), saying questions on its computation and timing remain unresolved since a case filed in 2022.

In an exclusive interview for DZRH Stories: Pinoy Documentaries, Inton said the group questioned how surge fees are calculated and when they should be imposed. “Ang amin pong katanungan ay paano na-arrive yung gano’ng computation at kailan dapat singilin yung surge,” he said, noting that the case has yet to be resolved.

Inton explained that TNVS was originally introduced as an alternative to taxis plagued by complaints, but has since evolved into a primary livelihood, changing fare dynamics. He added that the LTFRB’s recent move to impose a provisional reduction on surge fees was prompted by mounting passenger complaints during the holiday season.

“It may not be overcharge, but it is already not reasonable na gano’n yung pamasahe,” Inton said, stressing that while passengers see fares before booking, the reasonableness of surge pricing remains the key issue. He noted that the LTFRB will still conduct hearings to determine a permanent TNVS fare matrix, with the duration of the current fare cap yet to be decided.
