The parents of an 8-year-old Grade 4 student who died following a deworming activity at a school in Cavite have vowed not to accept any settlement, insisting that those responsible should be held accountable.
According to a report of RH Jecelle Ricafort, the victim's father, Leo Mission, claimed that the school failed to properly inform them that their son would undergo a deworming program and is determined to pursue justice.
"Hindi po ako papayag na areglo lang po, pagbabayaran po nila ’yung ginawa nila sa anak ko," she said.
He also said that the child had not eaten before being administered a 400-milligram dose of the medication.
"Hindi po sinabi sa amin na paiinumin ang anak ko at saka wala pang kain ‘yung anak ko. 8 years old pa lang ‘yun tapos ‘yung gamot na pinainom 400 milligrams," the father said.
According to the family, they had signed a consent form for the school's deworming activity about two weeks before the incident. However, they said they were not informed when the medication would actually be administered.
The parents said their son returned home feeling dizzy and vomiting. He was immediately taken to a hospital but later died despite medical treatment.
The family said they are determined to hold whoever is found responsible accountable for the child's death.
On Monday, July 13, the parents sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an independent investigation into the incident. They also requested an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the child's death.
