Bagong Henerasyon Party-list spokesperson Bernadette Herrera raised concerns over the prolonged impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, questioning why the process took longer than expected despite what she described as sufficient grounds for action.

In an interview with DZRH's Balansyado, Herrera said she was surprised by the pace of developments, noting that the House Committee on Justice had already voted unanimously on probable cause.

“Expected naman po yun mula umpisa. Nagtataka nga ako ba't pinahaba pa nila eh,” Herrera said, adding that this may be the first time in Congress history that an impeachment complaint reached such a stage with an informed and substantiated finding of probable cause.

She also questioned the delay in transmitting the case to the Senate, arguing that a strong case should have moved more quickly to the next stage of the impeachment process.

“If evidences are really strong, then we didn’t really need to go through with this circus… If you're really confident dun sa strength of evidences that were submitted to the Committee on Justice, hindi na dapat inabot ng ganito katagal,” she said.

Herrera further raised pointed questions about the motives behind the extended process, asking whether there was an attempt to influence public perception and fellow lawmakers.

“Nililigawan ba nila yung publiko para maniwala sa impeachment? Nililigawan ba nila yung mga kapwa namin mambabatas kaya nila ito ginagawa? Nililigawan ba nila yung senators? I really don't know,” she said.

Despite her concerns, Herrera acknowledged that the House voting process is now moving toward plenary deliberation, where lawmakers are expected to decide on the next steps of the impeachment case.
