Heavy rains are expected in parts of Luzon on Saturday as the southwest monsoon continues to affect the country, while two low-pressure areas are being monitored for possible development into tropical depressions.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said LPA 08i was being monitored inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility as of 2 a.m. Saturday and had a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

Another low-pressure area, LPA 08j, was being monitored outside the PAR and had a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the same period.

PAGASA also warned of heavy rainfall due to the southwest monsoon, noting that rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. The effects may also be worsened in areas that have already received significant rainfall.

The agency urged local disaster risk reduction and management offices to take necessary measures to protect lives and property.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) issued a series of rainfall warnings across parts of Luzon.

As of 7:51 a.m., a red rainfall warning was in effect over Occidental Mindoro, where residents were warned of intense rain, flooding and possible landslides.

Earlier, red rainfall warnings were issued for Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga and Bulacan at 5:22 a.m.

Orange rainfall warnings were also raised over Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite and Tarlac, as well as Batangas and Occidental Mindoro, at 5:22 a.m.

Laguna was placed under an orange rainfall warning at 2:10 a.m.

PAGASA said its regional services divisions may issue heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm advisories and other severe weather information as necessary.

The public was advised to remain alert and continue monitoring official updates from PAGASA and disaster authorities.
