The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday warned of widespread rains across parts of Luzon and the Visayas due to the combined effects of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
The weather disturbance, identified as LPA 08F, is currently located within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and remains under close monitoring. According to PAGASA, the LPA has a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Furthermore, the Southwest Monsoon is bringing moderate to heavy rains to western sections of the country:
- August 26 (Tuesday): Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique
- August 27 (Wednesday): Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Antique, and Negros Occidental
- August 28 (Thursday): Palawan and Occidental Mindoro
PAGASA also warns that mountainous and elevated areas may receive higher rainfall totals, and places already soaked by earlier rains are at greater risk of flooding and landslides.
Local disaster risk reduction and management councils (DRRMCs) are advised to take all necessary precautions to ensure public safety. PAGASA Regional Services Divisions may issue localized Heavy Rainfall Warnings and Thunderstorm Advisories as needed.
Meanwhile, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has announced the suspension of classes in both public and private schools, as well as work in government offices, on Tuesday, August 26, in the following areas due to forecasted inclement weather:
