Sixteen areas across the Philippines may experience dangerously high heat indices on Tuesday, Nov. 3, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The heat index, which measures how hot it feels to the human body when relative humidity is factored in, is expected to reach 42 to 43 degrees Celsius in the listed areas.

PAGASA recorded the highest forecast heat index of 43℃ in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Iloilo City, Iloilo; and Catarman, Northern Samar.

Other areas expected to experience a heat index of 42℃ include:

  • Bacnotan, La Union

  • Camiling, Tarlac

  • Sangley Point in Cavite City

  • Malunay, Quezon

  • Cuyo, Palawan

  • Daet, Camarines Norte

  • Legazpi City, Albay

  • Virac, Catanduanes

  • Roxas City, Capiz

  • Siquijor, Siquijor

  • Borongan, Eastern Samar

  • Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte

  • Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur.

PAGASA classifies heat indices of 42℃ to 51℃ under the danger category, warning that prolonged exposure to such conditions may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, with heatstroke possible under continued exposure.

The public is advised to limit outdoor activities, stay in shaded or cool areas, drink plenty of water and wear lightweight clothing to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.
