In a massive vote of confidence for its most anticipated project in years, HBO Max has officially confirmed a second season of the Harry Potter original series—months before the first season even hits television screens.

The announcement, made Friday, confirms that the magic will continue well beyond the Christmas 2026 debut of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

With an ambitious production schedule looming, the network is wasting no time; cameras are set to roll on the second installment this autumn.

A ‘Succession’ of Talent

To manage the monumental task of bringing the Wizarding World to the small screen, the series is doubling down on its creative leadership.

Jon Brown, a veteran writer from HBO’s heavy-hitter Succession, has been elevated from his Season 1 writing post to serve as Co-Showrunner alongside Francesca Gardiner.

Gardiner, who also shares Succession DNA with Brown, noted that the promotion was a necessity born of the show's rapid momentum.

"As we have laid out our plans for the overlapping production schedules... it has become clear that bringing on a Co-Showrunner is the key," Gardiner said, describing Brown as a "brilliant collaborator" and a "lovely person."

Brown, for his part, seems ready to trade corporate boardrooms for the Great Hall. "I’m incredibly excited," he said. "Seems you’re never too old to get your invitation to Hogwarts."

The series aims to provide a faithful, deep-dive adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book series, starting with Harry’s 11th birthday and his escape from the mundane cruelty of the Dursley household into a world of "fun, friendship, and magic."
