Tropical Storm “Hagupit” is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday, May 9, and will be given the local name “Caloy,” the PAGASA said.
As of 11:00 AM, the state weather bureau said that “Hagupit” has slightly weakened while moving westward over the northeast of Palau. It was located at 1,065 km East of Northeastern Mindanao outside PAR.
It has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 80 km/h, and a central pressure of 1002 hPa.
The tropical storm is currently moving westward at 20 km/h.
According to PAGASA, “Hagupit” may maintain its strength in the next 12 hours as it continues to move over the Philippine Sea and until it enters PAR. Due to an unfavorable environment, the weather bureau said it may begin weakening starting on Sunday, May 10.
“Hagupit will become a tropical depression tomorrow [May 10] and will further weaken into a low-pressure area on Monday [May 11],” the PAGASA said.
