The southwest monsoon or habagat, along with the trough of Tropical Depression Krovanh (formerly Pilandok), will continue to bring rains over parts of Luzon and the Visayas on Wednesday, September 9, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
In its 5 a.m. weather forecast, PAGASA said the habagat is affecting Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and the entire Visayas.
For Wednesday, cloudy skies with scattered rains are expected over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Aurora due to the trough of Krovanh.
Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon may also experience cloudy skies with rains brought by the habagat.
Stronger winds are expected over the western section of Luzon, particularly in Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.
PAGASA said significant rainfall is expected over the western section of the country today and over the next three days, particularly in Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Pampanga, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro due to the southwest monsoon.
Meanwhile, the trough of Krovanh is expected to bring significant rainfall to Isabela, Quirino, and Aurora.
In the Visayas, Palawan, Antique, and Aklan may also experience rains associated with the habagat. Other areas in the Visayas and Mindanao are expected to have generally fair and partly cloudy weather, although hot and humid conditions may trigger isolated thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening.
Meanwhile, the state weather bureau said it was not monitoring any low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) with potential to develop into a tropical cyclone, as of 3 a.m.
A yellow rainfall warning was issued over Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, parts of Pampanga, and several areas in Bulacan due to habagat.
The affected areas in Pampanga include Floridablanca, Lubao, Sasmuan, Macabebe, and Masantol, while those in Bulacan include Hagonoy, Malolos, Paombong, Bulakan, Obando, Meycauayan, Marilao, Bocaue, Balagtas, and Guiguinto.
PAGASA also said the trough or extension of former Tropical Storm Pilandok (internationally known as Krovanh), which is currently outside the PAR, is extending toward Northern Luzon and bringing rains to the area.
The weather bureau said the possibility of an LPA developing within the PAR later this week cannot yet be ruled out.
Temperatures in Metro Manila are forecast to range from 24°C to 29°C, while Laoag may see temperatures between 23°C and 30°C. Tuguegarao is expected to record 24°C to 32°C, Baguio 17°C to 20°C, Tagaytay 22°C to 28°C, and Legazpi 25°C to 32°C.
In the southern areas, temperatures may range from 25°C to 32°C in the Kalayaan Islands and Puerto Princesa, 26°C to 32°C in Iloilo, 27°C to 35°C in Tacloban, 27°C to 34°C in Cebu, and 25°C to 34°C in Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro. Davao may experience temperatures between 26°C and 34°C.
PAGASA said more areas could be affected by rains on Thursday as the southwest monsoon and the trough of Krovanh continue to influence weather conditions.
By Friday, September 11, the weather bureau is also monitoring the possibility of an LPA that could potentially strengthen the habagat.
PAGASA warned residents in areas expected to receive heavy rainfall, particularly in Luzon, to remain alert as several areas have already experienced days of rain, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.
As of Wednesday morning, PAGASA had not raised any gale warning over the country's coastal waters.
