The southwest monsoon, or habagat, will continue to affect parts of Luzon and Visayas, bringing rains until Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Monday.
In its 5:00 a.m. weather forecast, PAGASA weather specialist Aldzcar Aurelio said the prevailing habagat is being enhanced by Tropical Storm Krovanh (formerly known as Pilandok), which remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
As of 3 a.m. September 7, Krovanh was located 1,155 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon. It was moving eastward at 10 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h. PAGASA said the Krovanh is unlikely to directly affect the country.
For Monday, occasional rains are expected over Zambales, Bataan, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are also forecast over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, the rest of Central Luzon, CALABARZON and MIMAROPA.
The rest of Luzon and the Visayas may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to habagat, while localized thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of Mindanao.
PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rains brought by the habagat could trigger flash floods and landslides, particularly in vulnerable and low-lying areas and communities near rivers.
On Tuesday, September 8, occasional rains are expected in Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas and Occidental Mindoro, while other areas may continue to experience scattered rains and thunderstorms.
By Wednesday, September 9, the habagat is expected to continue affecting parts of Luzon and the Visayas, with several areas potentially experiencing heavy rainfall.
