The southwest monsoon, or habagat, stranded around 349 passengers, truck drivers and cargo helpers at 26 ports nationwide as of Monday morning, the Philippine Coast Guard said.

The PCG monitored port conditions from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. Aug. 10, with 79 rolling cargoes and nine vessels also stranded, while 25 vessels, 405 motorbancas, six tugboats and three barges took shelter due to the effects of the southwest monsoon.

The affected areas were as follows:

• Western Visayas

• Ports covered: Alegria Port; Barangay Union, Nabas Port

• Stranded: 67 passengers, 30 rolling cargoes and two vessels

• Taking shelter: Two vessels

• Bicol

• Port covered: Pasacao Port

• Stranded: 15 passengers

• Southern Tagalog

• Ports covered: Real Port, Port of Lucena, Port of San Andres, Roxas Port, Romblon Port, San Agustin Port, Looc Port, Batangas Port, Calatagan Port and Wawa Port

• Stranded: 212 passengers and 35 rolling cargoes

• Taking shelter: 13 vessels, six tugboats and three barges

• Central Visayas

• Ports covered: Hagnaya Port, Daanbantayan Pier, Cogtong Bay, Anda in Bohol, Tudela Port, Hagutapay Port, Pilar Port and Poro Port

• Stranded: 55 passengers, 15 rolling cargoes and seven vessels

• Taking shelter: 10 vessels and 405 motorbancas

The PCG continues to monitor the affected ports and urged passengers and shipping operators to coordinate with local authorities and check weather and port conditions before traveling.
