The death toll from recent tropical cyclones and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon, or “Habagat,” has reached 33, with 19 more individuals injured and three missing, said the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Monday, August 31.

During a press conference, OCD Director Gregorio Tomas also said that 2.5 million families, equivalent to 8.8 million individuals, have been affected by the calamities.

Affected regions include Regions I, II, III, V, VI, IX, CALABARZON, CAR, NCR, and MIMAROPA, Tomas said.

The Office logged 46,900 families, or 164,500 individuals, currently taking shelter in 1,365 different evacuation centers.

In addition, Tomas said 3,300 houses in total sustained damage during the weather disturbances, with 2,900 homes partially destroyed, and 405 completely destroyed.

Infrastructure damages have also reached an estimated ₱6.12 billion, and agricultural losses an estimated ₱2.32 billion.

The OCD, Tomas announced, has disbursed a total of ₱1.78 billion in assistance.
