The southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” will continue to affect most parts of Luzon on Thursday, August 13, the state weather bureau said.
In its 5:00 a.m., weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said nearly the entire Luzon is expected to experience cloudy conditions, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms, except for the Bicol Region. Camarines Norte, however, may still experience isolated rain showers.
The heaviest rains are expected over Zambales and Bataan, where a yellow heavy rainfall warning is in effect. Occidental Mindoro is also expected to experience occasional rain showers.
Palawan and parts of Western Visayas, including Aklan, Antique, and Capiz, may also experience rain showers due to the continuing effects of the southwest monsoon.
Meanwhile, other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao are expected to experience generally hot and humid weather, particularly in the afternoon, although isolated rain showers or thunderstorms remain possible.
PAGASA is also monitoring Tropical Storm Nangka, which remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Nangka was located more than 2,500 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon and was moving northeastward at 20 kilometers per hour. It had maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kilometers per hour.
The storm is currently far from the country and is not expected to directly affect Philippine weather conditions.
Authorities continue to warn of possible localized flooding in areas experiencing persistent rainfall, particularly Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
With rains continuing since last week, residents in affected and vulnerable areas are also urged to remain alert for possible landslides and flash floods.
