The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will continue to affect parts of Luzon and the Visayas, bringing monsoon rains, occasional rain, and thunderstorms to several areas on Sunday, August 9.
Ilocos Sur, La Union, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro are expected to experience monsoon rains due to the Southwest Monsoon.
Meanwhile, occasional rains are forecast over Metro Manila, the rest of the Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, and Antique.
The Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, the rest of Luzon, the rest of Western Visayas, Leyte, and Southern Leyte will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms, also due to the Southwest Monsoon.
Batanes, meanwhile, will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough or extension of Typhoon Dolphin.
The rest of the country will generally have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.
THREE TROPICAL CYCLONES REMAIN OUTSIDE PAR
As of 3 a.m., three tropical cyclones were being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Typhoon Dolphin (2613) was located 755 kilometers north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It was moving west-northwestward at 15 kph.
Two tropical depressions were also monitored east of extreme northern Luzon. One was located 3,435 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon, while the other was 1,980 kilometers east of the area.
Both tropical depressions had maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center, with gustiness of up to 55 kph.
Despite the presence of the three systems, all remain outside the PAR as of the latest bulletin.
STRONG WINDS, ROUGH SEAS EXPECTED
Strong to gale-force winds are expected over extreme northern Luzon, where coastal waters may become rough to very rough.
The rest of Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds moving southwest, with moderate to rough coastal waters.
In the Visayas and Mindanao, moderate to strong winds moving south to southwest are expected.
Residents, motorists, and those living in areas affected by the Southwest Monsoon are advised to remain alert for sudden heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, possible flooding, and landslides, particularly in areas vulnerable to prolonged or intense rain.
