Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) President and General Manager Wick Veloso has denied allegations of an ₱8.8-billion investment loss, following calls from some members of the GSIS Board of Trustees for his “immediate and irrevocable” resignation.
Veloso, who recently returned to his post after a two-month suspension, maintained that the GSIS remains financially strong and transparent in all its operations.
“Wala hong P8.8 billion [na lugi sa investment]. Hinahanap po ng buong management team, saan po ‘yang 8.8 billion na ‘yan? Ngunit ang opisyal na talaan po natin, mayroon ho tayong P100 billion na net income,” Veloso said during an interview in DZRH.
He emphasized that the GSIS continues to prioritize sound investment decisions and proper governance, ensuring that the interests of its members and pensioners are protected.
“Kung gusto niyo ho akong palitan dito at kayo po ang umupo dito, siguraduhin lang na alam din ninyong i-put into priority the interest of GSIS, look at opportunities for the fund to grow, everything is run transparently, with proper governance,” he said.
“It is not run by the voice of the few, but by the voice of the whole members of the board,” Veloso added.
Veloso explained that since returning from his leave, he has been focused on strengthening governance and ensuring unity within the organization.
“Dalawang buwan po ako nawala, sinasagot natin same issues also that were being thrown at me. Now that I'm back, I wanted to make sure proper governance is in place — that this organization is run with the voice of everybody on the board in the same direction,” he said.
The GSIS chief also assured government employees and pensioners that the institution’s funds remain safe and sustainable.
“Sa atin pong mga kawani, ang pondo po ng GSIS ay napaka-safe at napaka-stable. 2058 po ang fund life ng GSIS. Ang ibig sabihin niyan, hanggang 2058, you can sleep comfortably that we are going to be able to pay all your pensions and obligations,” Veloso said.
He added that GSIS continues to be managed by a team of competent professionals dedicated to maintaining transparency and financial prudence.
“This organization is being professionally run by esteemed men and women of the GSIS,” Veloso affirmed.
