An 'Interfaith Rally Against Corruption' will be held at Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila on Friday, July 10, with organizers calling on various religious groups and sectors of society to join the gathering.

According to a report of RH Tina Nolasco, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso announced the upcoming protest, saying that the city government is preparing for the event and hoping it will proceed peacefully.

“Tomorrow (July 10), may kaunti lang akong paalala…dahil mayroon pong magaganap na rally sa Liwasang Bonifacio, bukas. Naghahanda na po ang inyong lungsod and our own little [hope is] sana naman maging maayos muli ang nasabing rally,” Domagoso said.

According to information obtained by DZRH News, the event, dubbed the United People’s Initiative (UPI) Interfaith Rally Against Corruption, will gather religious organizations and other groups calling for accountability and good governance.

In a press release signed by UPI Secretary General Retired Capt. Rey Valeros, the group invited churches, religious organizations, faith-based institutions, and interfaith communities across the country to participate in the rally.

“On behalf of the United People's Initiative (UPI), we respectfully invite all churches, religious organizations, faith-based institutions, and interfaith communities throughout the Philippines to participate in the United People's Initiative Interfaith Rally Against Corruption,” the group said.

The protest is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., while the interfaith prayer rally will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the main program at 7 p.m.

UPI said the gathering aims to unite Filipinos from different backgrounds in promoting truth, integrity, justice, accountability, good governance, and national unity.

“This national gathering seeks to unite Filipinos from all walks of life in a common stand for truth, integrity, justice, accountability, good governance, and national unity. Rooted in our shared moral and spiritual values, this event is a peaceful call for prayer, solidarity, and collective action toward a nation free from corruption,” the group said.

The organizers extended the invitation to Christian churches and denominations, the Muslim community, Indigenous Peoples, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, Jews, and other religious communities, as well as faith-based organizations and spiritual movements.

They also called on civic organizations, professional associations, labor groups, youth organizations, business groups, non-government organizations, people’s organizations, academic institutions, political parties, and concerned citizens regardless of affiliation or political persuasion to join the event.

“Together, let us demonstrate that despite our diverse beliefs and traditions, we can stand united in prayer and in our common desire for a just, peaceful, and corruption-free Philippines,” UPI said.

Meanwhile, Domagoso said the city government would announce traffic management measures on Thursday night in preparation for the rally.
