A woman who recently lost her child allegedly kidnapped a newborn baby from Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina City, according to police authorities.
Investigators said the suspect posed as a nurse and took the infant under the guise of conducting a newborn screening. She later brought the baby to Rizal Medical Center in Pasig, where the child was reportedly registered with the help of her boyfriend. The suspects were eventually tracked down and arrested in Pasig City after authorities identified the TNVS vehicle they used.
Marikina Police Chief PCol. Jenny DC Tecson said the woman may have been experiencing emotional distress after suffering a miscarriage or losing her child on December 26, which is being considered as a possible motive behind the incident.
The baby was safely recovered and returned to the parents on the night of December 29. Marikina Mayor Maan Teodoro said the incident was deeply distressing, noting that hospitals should always remain safe spaces for infants and their families.
The mayor added that the local government worked closely with authorities to ensure the safe recovery of Baby Ryu. She confirmed that the suspect is now in police custody and thanked law enforcers for their swift and coordinated response, emphasizing that the child’s safety and reunification with the family remain the top priority.
