The government is exploring new fuel suppliers as tensions escalate in the ongoing conflict between the United States-Israel, and Iran.

In a Dos Por Dos report by RH Jecelle ricafort, Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin told DZRH News that government-to-government negotiations are also possible.

She added that authorities are already preparing for a “worst-case scenario.”

According to Energy secretary, the country’s current oil supply is expected to last until the eighth week or until April 2026. Deliveries already at sea before the outbreak of hostilities are on schedule to arrive.

Earlier, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. assured the public that the Philippines has sufficient oil reserves to last up to 60 days despite the escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Garin urged oil companies to place orders immediately, noting that shipments could take up to a month to arrive.

She emphasized that alternative sources from countries such as North and South America, Canada, India, Brazil, Russia, and Europe are geographically distant, which may impact delivery times.

While acknowledging that oil from these countries may be more expensive, the DOE chief stressed that ensuring a stable supply is crucial amid the Middle East crisis.
