The hit musical comedy-drama series “Glee” is officially making a comeback, sparking excitement among fans after more than a decade since the original show ended.
The show’s official social media account teased its return on Wednesday, October 21, with the caption, “Currently gleeking out!” alongside a graphic confirming that “Glee” is returning.
Disney has confirmed that the reboot will stream on Disney+ and Hulu, with original co-creator Ryan Murphy leading the project alongside 20th Television, the studio behind the original series.
However, details about the new season, including its release date, storyline and cast, have yet to be announced.
Murphy previously revealed in September that he had completed a script for the reboot with fellow co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan. He also said he had been in contact with around 10 members of the original cast, who were enthusiastic about the idea.
“Glee” originally aired on Fox from 2009 to 2015, running for six seasons and following the members of the New Directions glee club at the fictional William McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio.
The series gained a devoted following for its musical performances, song covers and storylines tackling teenage relationships, bullying, identity and other social issues.
Its original cast included Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Heather Morris, Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch.
The show also earned multiple accolades, including six Primetime Emmy Awards and Golden Globe wins for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2010 and 2011.
