Barangay Ginebra San Miguel outlasted TNT Tropang Giga, 88-76, in a winner-take-all Game 7 on Wednesday night to capture the PBA Commissioner’s Cup title before a full house at Mall of Asia Arena.
The championship marked Ginebra’s first since its triumph in January 2023, when a record crowd of 54,589 packed the Philippine Arena.
Scottie Thompson delivered a near triple-double performance and was later named Finals Most Valuable Player, his third career citation.
The 32-year-old guard finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the clincher, controlling the tempo and anchoring Ginebra’s late-game surge.
Import Justin Brownlee led all scorers with 30 points, while Thompson and the rest of the Gin Kings pulled away in the fourth quarter after a tight contest through three periods.
Ginebra trailed at halftime, 47-40, before turning the game around in the third quarter to seize a 68-63 lead heading into the final frame.
The Gin Kings then dominated the closing minutes, limiting TNT’s offense while steadily building separation.
Point guard RJ Abarrientos and Troy Rosario added 13 points apiece for Ginebra, while Japeth Aguilar chipped in seven.
TNT was paced by import Chris McCullough with 28 points, while Jordan Heading contributed 21 and Roger Pogoy added 15. The Tropang Giga struggled to keep up in the fourth quarter as their offense stalled against Ginebra’s defense.
