Gilas Pilipinas suffered a defeat in its second friendly match in China, going up against the African team Senegal and losing with a final score of 72-64 on Friday night.

As the third period came to a close, Senegal managed to hold onto a narrow lead.

However, the young center AJ Edu showcased his skills by scoring consecutive baskets for Gilas, allowing them to reclaim the lead at 57-56.

Chris Newsome and June Mar Fajardo attempted to narrow the gap by making two free throws each.

But despite their efforts, Senegal maintained their advantage at 63-61.

Suddenly, the momentum shifted in favor of Senegal with a 7-0 scoring run, including a crucial three-pointer that extended their lead to 70-61.

With less than two minutes left in the game and the deficit still manageable, Senegal's clutch 3-pointer further widened the gap to nine points, making it difficult for the Philippines to catch up at 70-61.

June Mar Fajardo countered with a layup after a pump fake, reducing the deficit to seven points at 70-63.

In the final moments, the Philippines managed to regain possession, but unfortunately, Kiefer Ravena's layup attempt hit the rim and missed.

Senegal secured the victory with a couple of successful free throws.

June Mar Fajardo led the Philippine team in scoring with 14 points, while Dwight Ramos and CJ Perez both contributed 11 points each.

Philippines plans to regroup and seek redemption in their upcoming rematch against Senegal on Sunday, August 6.
