Gilas Pilipinas Women are just one victory away from reclaiming the Southeast Asian Games basketball crown after a hard-fought 66-55 win over defending champion Indonesia at Nimibutr Stadium.
The Filipinas came out firing from the opening tip, demonstrating the composure and focus that Coach Patrick Henry Aquino highlighted as key to their early-game dominance.
Quinn Kacey Dela Rosa spearheaded the offense, pouring in 21 points, while veteran Afril Bernardino added 14 markers, giving the team a balanced attack that kept Indonesia on the back foot.
The win also offered a measure of redemption for the Philippines, whose three-peat bid was cut short by Indonesia in the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games.
On Friday, Gilas Women will meet host Thailand for the gold medal. Thailand advanced after defeating Malaysia 59-51, setting up a showdown that promises to be both competitive and high-stakes.
In men’s action, Gilas Pilipinas will also face Thailand in the title match. The hosts overpowered Malaysia 86-55 in Thursday’s nightcap, setting up a marquee clash with the Filipinos.
Both finals will be held Friday at Nimibutr Stadium, rounding out an exciting basketball competition at the 33rd SEA Games.
