GCash, a Philippine mobile payment service, assured its customers on Monday that it has not experienced a data breach, following reports that user information was being sold on the dark web.

“There is no evidence of any breach in GCash systems. All customer accounts and funds remain secure,” the company said in a statement.

G-Xchange, Inc. explained that its cybersecurity experts found that the supposedly leaked database containing user information did not match the company’s actual system records.

“Upon swift investigation of our cybersecurity experts, the alleged dataset does not match data from GCash systems. Additionally, many entries are incomplete, invalid, or do not belong to GCash users,” it said.

The company, alongside the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), National Privacy Commission (NPC), and Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), is carefully monitoring and validating information and ensuring the security of its systems.

Earlier in the day, the NPC released a statement disclosing that a post on the dark web, made by the alias “Oversleep8351,” offered to sell GCash account numbers, linked bank and virtual card accounts, among other things.
