Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Sarah Elago took her oath of office as a member of the House of Representatives in the 20th Congress.
On Tuesday, September 23, Elago took her oath of office before House Speaker Bojie Dy III during a plenary session, formally assuming her role as Gabriela’s representative in the 20th Congress.
Gabriela secured the 64th and final party-list seat after the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) adjusted the allocation to comply with the required 20 percent party-list composition of the House of Representatives.
On September 17, Elago received the party-list’s certificate of proclamation from the Comelec, officially confirming her return to Congress.
During the proclamation, Elago underscored Gabriela’s commitment to push for women’s rights and basic social services. She also condemned corruption in government, urging that public funds be redirected to essential services.
Gabriela ranked 55th in the May party-list elections, garnering 256,811 votes.
Elago’s entry brings the number of active party-list representatives to 64, although three seats remain vacant after the Comelec en banc canceled the registration of Duterte Youth on August 29.
The poll body earlier explained that the original 63 seats fell short of the required party-list representation, prompting the adjustment.
This marks Elago’s return to the House, where she previously served as Kabataan party-list representative from 2016 to 2022.
