The Gabriela Women’s Party has strongly condemned a radio anchor of K5 News FM Bacolod 101.5 following a controversial on-air remark involving rape during a live news report on violence against women and children.

In a statement dated May 20, 2026, the group denounced the conduct of anchor Jean Paul Generoso, who was seen repeatedly asking a female journalist if he could “rape” her while they were reporting on a sensitive case of abuse.

“Rape is not a joke,” Gabriela said, stressing that there is no context that can lessen the gravity of the word, calling it a violent crime and a serious violation of women’s rights.

The group said the incident was particularly disturbing as it occurred while discussing cases of abuse, noting that such remarks normalize sexual violence instead of showing respect and sensitivity toward victims.

Gabriela also pointed out that the female reporter’s discomfort was visible in the video, describing the repeated sexualized comments as gender-based harassment prohibited under Republic Act No. 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act (Bawal Bastos Law).

“Kapag ginagawang katatawanan ang rape, lalo nitong pinatatahimik at tinatakot ang mga biktima,” the statement added, warning that such behavior contributes to a culture of silence among survivors.

The group urged accountability and immediate action, calling on media institutions and authorities to ensure that such conduct is not tolerated in any workplace or public platform.

Gabriela emphasized that rape should never be treated as humor, content, or entertainment, especially amid rising cases of violence against women and children.
