The Metro Manila Council has approved the exemption of fuel tankers from the truck ban and number coding scheme across Metro Manila, according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III.

The decision, announced following a recent council meeting, takes immediate effect and allows fuel tankers transporting petroleum products to freely operate on major roads in the National Capital Region (NCR) without being apprehended under existing traffic restrictions.

Torre explained that the exemption aims to ensure the continuous and unhampered delivery of fuel to gasoline stations, which are considered essential to maintaining transportation, logistics, and economic activities in the region.

Previously, fuel tankers were subject to the truck ban during peak hours and the number coding scheme, which limited vehicle movement based on license plate numbers. With the new policy, authorities expect a more stable fuel supply and reduced risk of shortages.

The move forms part of the government’s broader efforts to mitigate the impact of the ongoing oil-related challenges, including fluctuating global prices and supply concerns, which have affected fuel availability and costs in the country.
