Filipino theater actor and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Matty Juniosa has joined the cast of the acclaimed rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar, with performances set at The London Palladium from June 20 to September 5.
Juniosa will portray Annas in the West End production of the iconic musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, joining a lineup that includes Bob Harms as Caiaphas, Billy Nevers as Simon/Alternate Judas, Phil King as Peter, and the ensemble cast.
In a statement, BBA Management expressed support for Juniosa’s casting.
“This iconic, groundbreaking production continues to captivate audiences around the world with its powerful score and electrifying storytelling. We are so proud of @itsmemattyj and can’t wait to see him shine on stage,” the agency said.
Juniosa’s casting comes amid a breakout run on Britain’s Got Talent, where he recently earned his second Golden Buzzer in the semi-finals after performing Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”
Earlier in the competition, he also received a Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell following his audition performance of Prince’s “Purple Rain.”
Back in the Philippines, audiences will also see Jesus Christ Superstar return to Manila as part of a major international tour presented by GMG Productions. The Manila staging will run from May 2 to May 31 at The Theatre at Solaire.
Actress Gab Pangilinan is set to portray Mary Magdalene in the Manila production, alongside other members of the touring cast.
