Frank Lao was elected president of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) during a Special General Assembly and Election held Monday, Aug. 10, marking a leadership change aimed at restoring stability in the sport.

The assembly was conducted under the supervision of Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham Tolentino and Secretary General Wharton Chan.

Joining Lao in the new set of officers are Atty. Donn Rico Kapunan as vice president, Jose Donaldo Caringal as secretary general, Rommel Ng as treasurer, and Chan as auditor.

Elected to the board of trustees were Mohamad Ali Bernan Jr., Atty. Jonas Cabochan, Dr. Rustico Camangian, Carmela Gamboa, Sienna Olaso, Francis Chad Salimbangon, and Ramon Suzara.

The newly installed leadership is expected to guide Philippine volleyball’s recovery and growth, with officials emphasizing unity and stronger governance moving forward.

The leadership overhaul follows the International Volleyball Federation’s (FIVB) suspension of the PNVF on May 29, 2026, citing serious governance issues and ethics violations. The move led to a halt in local funding and prompted the POC to take over as a temporary caretaker of the federation.

Officials expressed optimism that Lao’s leadership and the new board would address governance concerns and help reinstate the country’s standing in the international volleyball community.
