At least four electric cooperatives were affected by the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that struck off the coast of Davao Oriental on Friday morning, according to the Department of Energy (DOE).

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin reported that the Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC), Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company (CEPALCO), Cotabato Light and Power Company (CLPC), and Davao Oriental Electric Cooperative (DORECO) were impacted by the strong tremor.

According to initial reports:

  • DLPC experienced 10 substation trips following the quake.

  • CEPALCO and CLPC reported no damages so far, but assessments are ongoing to ensure the safety of their facilities.

  • DORECO, which is located near the epicenter, is also conducting an ongoing assessment of possible damage to its distribution network.

Meanwhile, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) confirmed that a few feeders tripped due to the quake, but restoration efforts are currently underway.
