Expelled Congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. is set to return to the detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig on Tuesday, July 1, after his stay at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), having undergone an appendectomy.
This afternoon, Teves’ camp was awaiting his results and discharge papers. According to an update from his legal counsel, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, the transfer has been delayed as they have not been provided transportation with security.
“I would like to report that ex-Congressman Teves is still at the Philippine General Hospital as of this writing. The delay is not attributable to him or his legal counsels or his medical team, but due to the lack of proper transportation facilities to return him to his place of detention with the necessary security, and the lack of orders issued to the jail authorities from the leadership of the BJMP (Bureau of Jail Management and Penology) as to the protocols for his return,” Topacio said.
Teves will be kept in the BJMP’s infirmary as part of his medical quarantine, which often lasts 14 days. The agency has ensured that there will be medical personnel looking after the former lawmaker.
Earlier, the schedule for Teves’ arraignment and pre-trial at the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 12 for a murder case was moved to July 14, as it was supposed to take place on Monday.
