DreamWorks Animation has officially released the trailer for its upcoming feature film, Forgotten Island, giving audiences a first look at a vibrant, folklore-rich adventure that puts Filipino culture front and center on the global stage.

Unveiled on Wednesday, March 25, the animated comedy-adventure is co-directed by Filipino-American filmmaker Januel Mercado alongside Joel Crawford, the creative team behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

The film follows the story of two inseparable best friends, Jo and Raissa, who find themselves trapped on a mystical island rooted in Philippine mythology—where their only way home comes at a heartbreaking cost: forgetting each other.

The trailer highlights iconic elements of Filipino culture, blending fantasy and nostalgia.

Mythical creatures such as the manananggal, kapre, and the legendary Ibong Adarna come to life in dazzling animation, alongside everyday Filipino imagery like jeepneys and childhood friendship traditions.

Set to the music of Simple Minds, the preview bursts with color and personality, offering a rare global showcase of Philippine folklore through a DreamWorks lens. The film marks the studio’s first project to center Filipino culture as the heart of its narrative.

Forgotten Island is shaping up to be a landmark moment for Filipino storytelling in global animation—not just for its setting, but for its authentic voice and creative leadership. By weaving mythology, friendship, and identity into a universal story, the film aims to resonate with audiences worldwide while celebrating Filipino heritage.

Leading the film are Liza Soberano and H.E.R., who lend their voices to best friends Raissa and Jo. Joining them is a powerhouse lineup that includes Lea Salonga, Dolly de Leon, Manny Jacinto, Jo Koy, and Ronny Chieng.

The film is being hailed as a milestone for representation, bringing together Filipino and Asian talent in a major international animated production.

Soberano expressed her gratitude and pride in being part of the project, emphasizing its cultural significance.

“I’m so so so honored and proud to be a part of such an amazing film that showcases Filipino culture and talent!!” she wrote on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Salonga shared her excitement in her own post.

“Oh my gosh, oh my golly, oh my goodness, I am SO FRICKEN EXCITED!!!!!”

“AAAAAHHHH I can’t believe it’s here. So grateful,” H.E.R. also took to social media to celebrate the trailer’s release.

The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on September 25, 2026.
