Over 20 families already displaced by a fire were hit by flooding at their temporary shelter in a covered court in Barangay San Antonio, Valley 8, on Monday, compounding their hardship.

According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, evacuee Joselyn Eso said floodwaters entered their tents Sunday night, damaging the few belongings they had managed to save from the earlier fire.

She said residents were caught off guard after water from the street overflowed into the covered court.

“Yung iba basa yung mga damit kasi hindi naagapan dahil biglaan,” Eso said in Filipino.

She added that many evacuees were unable to sleep as their tents were flooded.

“Wala kaming tulog kasi basa nga yung tent namin,” she said.

Eso said the president of their neighborhood association immediately responded and temporarily accommodated affected families at a nearby multi-purpose hall.

The covered court is located beside Creekside 2, where more than 100 houses were submerged in floodwaters on Sunday.

The evacuees had earlier lost their homes to a fire in Barangay Lower San Antonio in early May.

As of writing, floodwaters at the covered court have subsided.
