A fisherman surrendered millions of pesos worth of suspected illegal drugs (cocaine) to police over the weekend after discovering the packages along the shoreline in Quezon province, authorities said.

According to a report by RH Benjie Antioquia, the 52-year-old fisherman, a resident of Sitio Katakian in Barangay Busdak, personally went to a police station at around 11:30 a.m. to hand over five sealed plastic bags containing a white crystalline substance. He told authorities he first found the items along the shoreline in February.

Initial investigation showed the seized items weighed about 6.514 kilograms, with an estimated street value of P34.5 million, based on standard drug pricing from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The Quezon Provincial Forensic Unit will conduct laboratory tests to determine the exact composition of the substance.

Police said the incident follows a similar discovery in the same area on April 7, when a concerned citizen reported around three kilograms of suspected cocaine worth P16.7 million.

Laboratory examination later confirmed the substance as cocaine, prompting a deeper investigation by the Quezon Provincial Police Office.

Meanwhile, two suspected drug pushers were arrested in separate buy-bust operations in the province.

Police said the operations, led by personnel from the Lucena City Police and the Lucban Municipal Police Station, resulted in the seizure of about 14.10 grams of suspected shabu.

The confiscated shabu has an estimated value of more than P287,640, according to PDEA.

Authorities said further investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the illegal drugs and identify other individuals who may be involved.
