The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) declared the first day of the transport strike across Metro Manila as “generally peaceful,” with authorities reporting no major untoward incidents during various protest actions.

In an interview with DZRH News on Thursday, March 19, NCRPO Director Anthony Aberin said police monitored multiple gatherings and ensured order throughout the day.

Around 10,000 police personnel were deployed across the capital region to maintain security, assist in traffic management, and minimize inconvenience to commuters affected by the strike.

However, transport group PISTON alleged cases of harassment involving some drivers in Sucat, Parañaque, early in the morning. According to the group, police officers reportedly required participants to present permits and identification cards and allegedly attempted to seize a microphone from a driver speaking during the protest.

Aberin noted that specialized units, including Civil Disturbance Management teams, Reactionary Standby Support Forces, and drone operators, were placed on standby to ensure rapid monitoring and response.

He reiterated instructions to enforce maximum tolerance while urging the public to remain calm, follow traffic guidelines, and cooperate with authorities.
