More than 100 families were affected by a fire that broke out in a residential area in Barangay Bagong Pag-asa early Saturday morning, May 9, 2026.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire started at around 5:50 a.m. near Jetti along Road 3, Mindanao Avenue. The blaze quickly spread through the community because many of the houses were made of light material, as reported by RH Edwin Duque on RH Balita.
The fire was raised to a second alarm just three minutes after it started due to the rapid spread of the flames.
Firefighters from different areas across Metro Manila responded and worked together to contain the fire in the residential area along Road 16, Mindanao Avenue.
Authorities said around 40 to 50 houses were destroyed in the fire. More than 100 families were affected and are currently staying in designated evacuation centers.
The fire was declared under control at around 6:26 a.m. and was fully extinguished by 6:35 a.m., according to the BFP.
Officials confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
Initial investigation showed that the fire started in a two-storey house made of light materials before spreading to nearby homes.
Authorities also noted that the same area had previously been hit by a fire in November 2025.
“Ito rin ‘yung nasunog noong nakaraang November 25 [2025],” the BFP told reporters.
The BFP is still investigating the cause of the fire and the estimated cost of the damage.
