A fire broke out in a residential area in Kalimbas, Sta. Cruz, Manila early Friday morning, even as heavy rain poured over the city, Boy Gonzales reported.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, the blaze started at around 6:56 a.m. and quickly escalated to the second alarm as flames rapidly spread through a two-story, five-door apartment made of light materials.

In response to the incident, authorities temporarily closed the westbound lane of Blumentritt Street to give way to responding firefighters.

The fire was declared out at 7:59 a.m.

Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
