A fire broke out at the Department of Public Works and Highways – Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR) office on Wednesday, January 14, originating from the Financial Management Records Room, Baguio City Fire Marshal Mark Anthony Dangatan reported.
According to the City Disaster Management Cluster, Dangatan said the blaze started in a one square meter area of the room.
He added that a utility worker first noticed smoke coming from the room and immediately alerted the building’s security personnel and drivers.
“He immediately alerted the security personnel and drivers, and together they attempted to control the fire using four 10-lb fire extinguishers. Their efforts continued until the Baguio City Fire Station personnel arrived at the scene and took over the fire suppression operations,” Dangatan said.
The fire was reported at 5:25 p.m., brought under control by 5:36 p.m., and fully extinguished at 5:43 p.m. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The DPWH-CAR reported that based on initial assessment by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) it was confirmed that the affected area was limited to about two square meters of the office, and no DPWH employees were harmed.
