The Philippine Embassy in Switzerland confirmed on Monday that a Filipino national was injured in a deadly fire that broke out at a popular bar in Crans-Montana during New Year’s Day.
In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the embassy received information that one Filipino was among those hurt in the blaze that swept through the resort town in southern Switzerland. It added that it could not disclose further details at the request of the family.
“Our thoughts go out to the injured Filipino, whose recovery we are praying for,” the statement read.
The Philippine Embassy also clarified that it has not received any reports of other Filipino casualties related to the incident.
The fire reportedly broke out at around 1:30 a.m. on January 1 while a party was underway at the well-known “Le Constellation” bar.
Swiss authorities, meanwhile, confirmed that at least 40 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in the fire, with most of the victims being teenagers.
