The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is providing assistance to a Filipino seafarer injured in a reported drone attack on oil tanker ACER in the Persian Gulf on October 7.
In a statement dated October 12, the DMW said the Filipino crew member was rescued by the Qatar Navy and Qatar Coast Guard and brought to Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Qatar, led by Labor Attaché Eduard C. Ferrer, visited the seafarer and provided clothing and other immediate necessities.
The DMW said the team would continue monitoring his medical condition and coordinating welfare assistance for his recovery and eventual repatriation.
Meanwhile, the MWO in Qatar is coordinating with the local manning agency to verify the condition and whereabouts of the vessel’s other 24 Filipino crew members.
According to the agency, the remaining crew members are reportedly safe and en route to Dubai, where the vessel is expected to anchor.
The DMW said it would continue coordinating with relevant authorities and agencies to ensure that Filipino seafarers affected by maritime security incidents receive the necessary assistance and support.
