A Filipino national was killed and three other foreign nationals were affected after Saudi air defenses intercepted a drone attempting to target a processing facility at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field in the Eastern Province on Wednesday morning, October 21.
According to the Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, the interception caused falling debris that killed two people, a Filipino and a Nepali, and injured two others, a Pakistani and an Indian.
The incident also sparked a fire involving a vehicle belonging to a contractor operating at the oil field, outside the facility’s perimeter.
Despite the incident, the ministry said there was no impact on the facility’s operations.
The relevant authorities responded to the incident and took the necessary measures, according to the ministry’s statement dated October 21.
“The source extended sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery,” the statement said.
