A Filipino mountaineer made history as the “Fastest Walker” in the prestigious Guinness World Records, and was duly honored by the City of Manila.

Lito De Veterbo, 55, is a mountaineer and a Leave No Trace (LNT) Level 2 instructor. He successfully completed a walk from Maira-ira Point in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte until Tinaza Point in Glan, Sarangani Province.

The walk took precisely 147 days, one hour, 39 minutes, and 53 seconds.

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso praised De Veterbo, whose success demonstrated that Filipino diligence, perseverance, and excellence was worthy of international acclaim.

“Ayon kay Mayor Isko, ang ganitong tagumpay ay patunay ng sipag, tiyaga, at galing ng mga Pilipino na dapat ipagmalaki ng buong bansa,” the Manila Public Information Office said in a statement.
