Filipino writers, illustrators and educators are bringing stories shaped by island life, folklore and diverse childhoods to one of Asia’s leading literary gatherings this month at the 2026 Asian Festival of Children’s Content (AFCC), happening May 21–24.
In a May 20 press release, the National Book Development Board (NBDB) said the delegation will take part in panels, workshops and networking sessions under the theme “The Worlds We Make,” reflecting the richness of Philippine storytelling across languages and regions.
Now in its 16th year, AFCC is a major platform for children’s and young adult literature in Asia, bringing together creators and educators to explore new approaches in storytelling, illustration and publishing.
Filipino delegates include Angela B. Napeñas, who will discuss how animal characters can help children connect with environmental themes; illustrator Kristin Garanchon, who will lead a workshop on worldbuilding for picture books; and Tori Tadiar, who will join sessions on fantasy comics and Philippine mythology.
NBDB Executive Director Charisse Aquino-Tugade said Filipino creators continue to bring distinct voices to the global stage, while Maria Carolina Tapia said the participation helps expand opportunities and visibility for Philippine children’s literature in the region and beyond.
The NBDB said the country’s presence at AFCC highlights the continued growth of its children’s book sector and its expanding influence in Asian publishing.
