Filipino content creator Kier Garcia, popularly known online as ‘Fhukerat,’ was recently denied entry to Dubai during what was reportedly her first visit to the country.

Social media users speculated that Fhukerat’s on-arrival appearance—featuring a wig, long nails, and false eyelashes—may have drawn extra attention from airport authorities. The incident also reignited discussions online about cultural norms and strict regulations in the United Arab Emirates, particularly policies on attire and gender presentation.

Fhukerat explained the reason for the denial on her Tiktok and YouTube channel, emphasizing that it was not related to her clothing, makeup, or behavior.

“The reason kung bakit hindi ako nakapasok sa Dubai [ay] hindi sa pananamit ko, hindi sa pagmemake-up ko at hindi sa pagiingay ko. Ang sinabi sa akin ng officer it’s because your identity do not match your passport. So kapag tinignan ako mukha akong babae pero kapag tinigyan yong passport ko is nakalagay doon ‘Mel’” she said.

She added that authorities reassured her, stating, “There’s nothing wrong about you, your gender expression’s okay. But rules are rules; you should abide by them.”

Meanwhile, Fhukerat’s travel companion, influencer Queen Hera, shared additional details on TikTok. She claimed that Fhukerat entered the ladies’ restroom in the Dubai airport, which was recorded on security footage. Hera said that while lining up for immigration, Fhukerat was stopped, and officials reportedly told her, “This is not about the outfit; this is about national security.”

Frequent travelers to Dubai also weighed in, highlighting that the country enforces strict compliance in areas including:

  • Using gender-designated facilities correctly

  • No filming or recording in immigration zones

  • Full cooperation with security questioning and checks

  • Zero tolerance for unusual or restricted-area behavior

  • Respect for cultural and security protocols at all times

Queen Hera added that Fhukerat is now reportedly blacklisted from entering the UAE.

The incident has sparked conversations online about the intersection of gender expression and international travel regulations, highlighting the importance of understanding local laws and airport protocols before visiting foreign countries.
