The Filipino-Chinese community ushered in the 2026 Lunar New Year with a vibrant and prosperous celebration in Binondo, marking the Year of the Fire Horse with fireworks, cultural performances, and festive gatherings, DZRH TV's Rovhic Manuel reported.
As early as morning, roads leading to Jones Bridge were packed with revelers, prompting authorities to close the bridge to motorists to give way to the main festivities, including a fireworks display and a drone show that lit up the Manila skyline.
Thousands of Manileños and visitors flocked to Chinatown, filling the stretch of Ongpin Street to dine, shop, and take part in the colorful celebration. Traditional lion and dragon dance performances moved through the crowds, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity for the coming year, while local businesses reported brisk sales amid the holiday rush.
To ensure a peaceful observance, the Manila Police District (MPD) enforced heightened security measures across key areas in Binondo, deploying additional personnel to manage crowd control and maintain order. Authorities reported no major untoward incidents during the celebration.
Following the festivities, city workers conducted clearing and cleaning operations around Jones Bridge and nearby streets in Binondo, continuing Manila’s post-event cleanup tradition. The swift restoration efforts highlighted the city government’s commitment to maintaining order and cleanliness after large-scale public gatherings.
