Filipino-American tennis player Andre Ilagan is set to make his US Open qualifying debut after receiving a wild card, adding another Filipino connection to the Grand Slam tournament alongside Alex Eala.

Ilagan, 25, currently ranked No. 210 in the ATP rankings, earned the wild card after finishing runner-up in the US Open Wild Card Challenge, capping the best stretch of his professional career.

Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Ilagan has deep Filipino roots. His parents are first-generation immigrants from the Philippines, while his father, Sergio, coached him during his early years. His older brothers also competed in sports.

Before turning professional, Ilagan established himself as a standout collegiate player at the University of Hawaii. He became the first player in the school's history to receive ITA All-American honors before transitioning to the professional circuit in 2023.

Now, Ilagan will look to make his mark on one of tennis' biggest stages.

He must win three qualifying matches to earn a spot in the US Open main draw in New York.

Ilagan is set to play against America’s Tristan Boyer for the qualifying round on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Although Ilagan represents the American banner, his appearance also adds to the growing Filipino presence at the tournament, with Eala leading the charge after making history as the first Filipino to reach the US Open singles main draw last year.
