A bomb threat that prompted the suspension of classes at Far Eastern University (FEU)-Manila on Wednesday was determined to be a hoax after authorities completed a bomb sweep of the campus, police said.

According to a report by RH Tina Nolasco, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and K-9 teams, together with units of the Manila Police District (MPD), found no explosives or hazardous materials during an inspection of the FEU Manila main campus.

Police received a call from the university’s security manager at around 7:51 p.m. Wednesday regarding a bomb threat sent through the FEU business chat at about 7:01 p.m.

According to initial information from FEU’s vice president for technical and facilities, the threat originated from a message posted by an alumnus in the MedTech Society and student council group chats.

FEU security personnel immediately conducted an initial verification but found no suspicious device.

The EOD-K9 team later conducted a thorough assessment of the campus and its surrounding areas. The bomb sweep operation was completed at around 9:40 p.m., after which authorities declared the campus clear of explosives and hazardous materials.

The EOD-K9 team is coordinating with MPD Station 14 for the continuing investigation and appropriate action regarding the bomb threat.

FEU Manila has since returned to normal operations, with classes and other school activities proceeding as scheduled Thursday, Sept. 24.
