Isabela 6th District Rep. Faustino “Bojie” Dy III has been elected as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives of the 20th Congress, following the resignation of Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez.
Dy, who previously served as Deputy Speaker, formally assumed the post during the House plenary session on Wednesday, September 17, with a vote of 253-28.
His election comes after Romualdez stepped down, citing that the move was necessary to “protect the independence” of an ongoing congressional inquiry into alleged irregularities in government infrastructure projects.
His elevation to the chamber’s top post was confirmed earlier by Deputy Speaker and Antipolo 1st District Representative Ronaldo Puno.
Dy, a stalwart of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), the same political party as President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Previously, Dy served as governor of Isabela before representing its 3rd district in Congress from 2010 to 2019, and as vice governor from 2019 to 2025.
Hailing from the powerful Dy political dynasty of Isabela, Bojie is the third Faustino Dy to rise in Philippine politics.
His father, Faustino Dy Sr., served as governor of Isabela from 1971 to 1986 and again from 1988 to 1992. His brothers, Benjamin Dy and Faustino Dy Jr., also held the gubernatorial seat, cementing the family’s long-standing political dominance in the province.
With Dy’s election, the House of Representatives enters a new chapter of leadership as the 20th Congress continues to deliberate on critical legislative priorities.
