The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) clarified that the father of the Ateneo de Zamboanga Junior High School student linked to a fatal shooting incident on Tuesday is not among its officials, employees, or personnel.
The PPA said the student’s father is not affiliated with the agency, but with the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
“Reports identifying the father as a ‘port police’ official may have caused confusion. The official being referred to in the reports is associated with the Bureau of Customs, and is not connected with the Philippine Ports Authority,” the PPA statement released on Tuesday read.
The PPA made it clear that the Port Management Office of Zamboanga is an entirely separate entity from the BOC.
The agency extended its sympathies to individuals affected by the tragic incident.
On Tuesday, a shooting incident within the Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) Senior High School building took the lives of two students—a tenth grader and the suspect, an eighth grader.
According to police reports, the shooter carried a 9mm Glock pistol and filmed himself live on social media as he shot a victim, before turning the gun on himself.
